Economic Trends and Outlook for 2019 – Rally Return or Continued Caution?

On Wednesday January 23rd, at The City Club, Financial Women of San Francisco (FSWF) hosted Liz Ann Sonders, Senior Vice President, Chief Investment Strategist, Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. at our annual economic outlook event, part of FWSF’s Industry Leadership Series. At this sold-out breakfast meeting, over 200 people listened as Jennifer Ellison, CFA, Principal, BOSInvest, asked Ms. Sonders about how economic conditions and market trends may impact individual, corporate and institutional investment strategies. Ms. Ellison prepared an excellent list of thought-provoking questions and at the end, several of the guests also asked challenging questions.

At the holiday party, outgoing FWSF President Kathleen Nielsen announced that Jessica Ross, controller at Stitch Fix, had been voted FWSF’s Member of the Year. “Disruptive Technologies in the Financial Services Industry” Are you feeling the change?

On November 13th, over 40 people attended the three-person panel at KPMG for a riveting discussion on technologies that are disrupting the financial services industry. The panelists spoke about their respective topics while answering questions from the engaged audience. The underlying theme throughout our discussion was that technology is bridging a gap and paving the way for a changed landscape in the financial services industry. How does this apply to your personal career and your company?

Path to the Board: Let’s Hear from Some VPs (and Past Presidents)

This is the last of three Path to the Board articles (miss the earlier ones? See the articles below: Path to the Board: First Step ─ Maximize Your Membership by Joining a Committee and Path to the Board: Co-Chairs Speak Out). In this article, Connections got input from three VPs who have been involved with FWSF for a number of years: Shelby Duncan, VP Technology and Infrastructure, Anne Chambers, VP Fundraising, and Paige Venable, Immediate Past President. VPs have a few committees in their portfolios. Eventually, some of the VPs become officers of the board (Anne and Paige have both served as president.)
